Tampa, Florida Events Guide

The Tampa event season peaks from late January to early April, with Gasparilla Pirate Fest on January 30, 2027, the Florida State Fair from February 4 to 15, and the Gasparilla International Film Festival from April 1 to 4.

Two Tampa events have a deeper guide of their own: the Florida State Fair guide covers the history, management and agriculture of the fair, and the Gasparilla Festival of the Arts guide covers how artists are chosen and the festival's moves along the river. Gasparilla Pirate Fest is on Saturday, January 30, 2027, a week after the Children’s Gasparilla on January 23, and the season closes with the Outbound Voyage on February 27, 2027 (Gasparilla).

On Pirate Fest day, Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla celebrates capturing the key to the City of Tampa with a Parade of Pirates down Bayshore Boulevard, and the organizers expect hundreds of thousands of revelers (Gasparilla). In 2026 the City of Tampa schedule ran the Gasparilla Invasion from 11:30am to 1:00pm and the Parade of Pirates from 2:00pm to 5:30pm (City of Tampa traffic advisory). The organizer home page did not list 2027 parade times on October 14, 2026.

The Children’s Gasparilla is the family day, with a Preschooler’s Stroll, an air show, a parade of floats and marching bands, and a closing show the organizers call the Piratetechnic Finale (Gasparilla). At the Outbound Voyage the Krewe boards the Jose Gasparilla II, which the organizers describe as the only fully rigged pirate ship in the world, and the ship docks in downtown Tampa after a sail around Davis and Harbour Islands. The City of Tampa tells Gasparilla crowds to arrive early and leave the car outside the closures, parking in Ybor City and riding the free TECO Streetcar or the free HART shuttle (City of Tampa).

The 2026 Tampa closures show what to expect. Bayshore Boulevard between Gandy Boulevard and Platt Street, Bay to Bay Boulevard between Bayshore and MacDill Avenue and the Davis Islands Bridge off-ramp onto Bayshore were fully closed from 10:00 PM on Friday, January 30 until 5:00 AM on Sunday, February 1, and downtown streets such as Ashley Drive, Kennedy Boulevard and the Harbour Island Bridge closed in stages on parade day (City of Tampa, January 29, 2026). The city also published scooter no-ride zones, a rideshare restriction map and a wet zone map for alcohol.

A Tampa tip from the 2026 advisory: the Ft. Brooke Garage sold full-day Gasparilla parking in advance for $35.55 including taxes and fees, and the city posted an interactive neighborhood parking map of Tampa parking restrictions (City of Tampa). The City of Tampa posted its 2026 advisory on January 29, the day before the first closures, so the 2027 closures may not be public until parade week.

The 2027 Florida State Fair runs February 4 to 15, 2027 at the Florida State Fairgrounds, 4800 U.S. Highway 301 North in Tampa, phone (813) 621-7821 (Florida State Fair).

The fair FAQ lists parking at $8 per vehicle online during advance sales through February 4, then $10 online or $15 at the gate once the fair begins (Florida State Fair FAQ). The Tampa fairgrounds have three entrances, from US Highway 301, MLK Boulevard and Orient Road. Ride credits were sold at 7 for $10, 25 for $30 and 50 for $50, with most rides costing 4 to 8 credits.

Families should know the after 5 p.m. rule: at the 2026 fair, anyone 17 or younger had to be with an admission-paying parent or guardian aged 21 or older with a valid ID after 5:00 p.m. (Florida State Fair FAQ). Cracker Country, a rural history museum on the Tampa fairgrounds with 13 original structures built in Florida between 1870 and 1912, opens during the fair and on a few other dates. The Gasparilla International Film Festival returns April 1 to 4, 2027 for its 20th anniversary, while the Gasparilla Festival of the Arts, held February 28 to March 1 in 2026, had no 2027 dates posted on October 14, 2026 (GIFF; Gasparilla Festival of the Arts).

The 2026 Gasparilla Festival of the Arts filled Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park with more than 250 artists, free admission and live entertainment, open Saturday 9am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 5pm (Gasparilla Festival of the Arts). Its site already introduces the jurors for the 2027 Raymond James Festival of the Arts and describes the show as held every February, so the 2027 festival is expected in that window once dates are posted.

The Gasparilla International Film Festival, founded in 2006, is run by the nonprofit Tampa Film Institute, Inc. and calls itself the largest celebration of independent film in Tampa Bay (GIFF). Film submissions for the 2027 Tampa festival were open in October 2026. Its mailing address is 701 S. Howard Ave. in Tampa, phone 813-464-1657.

Every festival, run or walk, parade, block party or citywide celebration on Tampa public property starts with a booking through the City of Tampa Office of Special Events, 3402 W Columbus Drive, phone 813-274-8854 (City of Tampa Office of Special Events).

The Tampa office describes its process as one-stop, covering events in parks and rights of way, rentals at the Seminole Garden Center, recreation centers and the Bob Buckhorn River Center, picnic shelter rentals and photo and film permits (City of Tampa). Shelter reservations have their own line at 813-274-8184, and the office takes email at [email protected]. Events on private property in Tampa follow a separate private property event permitting path listed on the same page.

The same City of Tampa page is the quickest public calendar of permitted events. On October 14, 2026 it listed the Tampa Theatre 100th Celebration from 5:30 to 6:30pm and 3rd Thursday from 6 to 10pm on October 15, the Walk to End Alzheimer's on October 17, and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and the Hyde Park Pet Parade on October 24 (City of Tampa).
