Fellsmere, Florida Schools Guide

The Fellsmere Academy guide is the deep guide in this section, and the table below matches each common question about Fellsmere schools to its key fact and where to read more.

The Fellsmere Academy guide covers the Cypress Street campus in depth: its enrollment, the move to K-8, its Florida school grade and its meals, hours and VPK. The Indian River County schools page on Digital Towns covers the district as a whole. This hub answers the first questions a Fellsmere family asks: which school, which year, which hours and how the nearby schools rate.

Fellsmere Academy on N Cypress Street is the public school inside Fellsmere, and the district's Find My Bus or School lookup gives each Fellsmere address its zone school for later grades.

Fellsmere Academy sits at 50 N Cypress Street, Fellsmere, FL 32948, main number (772) 564-5970, and calls itself A Dual Language School (Fellsmere Academy). The district Parent Guide for 2026-2027 lists it as PreK to 7th grade, K-8th by 2027-2028 (SDIRC Parent Guide, page 14). Federal and state files use a different name: NCES lists Fellsmere Elementary School at the same Cypress Street address, a regular public school that is not a charter, in a Rural, Fringe locale (NCES).

The district's north county secondary schools appear in the same Parent Guide. Sebastian River High School, grades 9 to 12, is at 9001 Shark Boulevard, Sebastian, phone 564-4170 (SDIRC Parent Guide, page 14), and Sebastian River Middle School, grades 6 to 8, is at 9400 CR 512, Sebastian, phone 564-5111 (SDIRC Parent Guide, page 15).

The Parent Guide's route to a zone school is to use the Find My Bus or School link on the SDIRC website, choose Can I Ride a Bus, and enter the street address, municipality and grade; the zone school appears with the bus stop and morning and afternoon times (SDIRC Parent Guide, page 83). The district's 2026-2027 Public School Choice Openings list, updated 06/01/2026, shows Fellsmere Academy (K-7) with 0 openings in every grade from kindergarten through 7 (SDIRC choice openings, June 2026).

The 2026-2027 school year for Fellsmere students began on Monday, August 10, 2026, and Fellsmere Academy posts hours of 8:10 am to 2:51 pm, the district's middle and K-8 schedule.

Orientation came first: K-8 and elementary schools held orientation on Wednesday, August 5, middle and specialized schools on Thursday, August 6, and high schools on Friday, August 7 (SDIRC back to school post).

Bell times changed for 2026-2027. On Monday, February 23, 2026, the Indian River County School Board unanimously approved new start and dismissal times: high schools 7:20 AM to 2:07 PM, middle and K-8 schools 8:10 AM to 2:51 PM, and elementary schools 9:00 AM to 3:40 PM (SDIRC, February 25, 2026). The Fellsmere Academy home page shows the K-8 hours, 8:10 am to 2:51 pm (Fellsmere Academy). The high school start of 7:20 AM is 50 minutes earlier than the Fellsmere Academy start of 8:10 am.

Before-school care fills the early gap. The district Extended Day Program runs before school on regular school days: 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. for kindergarten through grade 5, and 7:00 to 7:40 a.m. at K-8 schools for kindergarten through grade 8, and the Parent Guide's registration list includes a Fellsmere Elementary link (SDIRC Parent Guide, page 45). Last verified: October 15, 2026, on the School District of Indian River County website.

Fellsmere Elementary School, the state's name for Fellsmere Academy, earned an A from the Florida Department of Education for 2025-26, and the north county middle and high schools in Sebastian also earned A grades.

FLDOE's 2025-26 school grades file is dated as of September 1, 2026 (FLDOE file). The Fellsmere row shows 541 points across 8 components, 68 percent of points possible, with 100 percent of students tested, and A grades in 2026, 2025 and 2024 after an informational baseline C in 2023 (FLDOE, Fellsmere Elementary row).

The Fellsmere result is recent. The same Fellsmere row shows a B in 2022 and C grades in 2019, 2018, 2017 and 2016, so the current run of A grades covers only the last three years. Grade thresholds differ by school type in the file: an elementary school needs 62 percent of points for an A, a middle school 64 percent, and a high or combination school 65 percent (FLDOE grading scale note).

The component scores show where the Fellsmere school is strongest. Fellsmere math achievement scored 81 and math learning gains 73 in the 2026 file, while English language arts achievement, English language arts learning gains and learning gains of the lowest 25 percent each scored 70; grade 3 English language arts achievement came in at 64, math progress for the lowest quarter at 57 and science at 56 (FLDOE, Fellsmere Elementary row). Math achievement is the highest component and science the lowest.

Fellsmere Academy serves PreK-7 on its Cypress Street campus in 2026-27, and the district plans K-8 there by 2027-2028.

The steps show up across the official records. NCES counted 605 Fellsmere students in 2024-25, with 34.00 full-time-equivalent classroom teachers and a ratio of 17.79 students per teacher, and its 2025-2026 directory lists a grade span of PK to 6 (NCES). The school's 2026-27 home page reads Grades PreK-7 (Fellsmere Academy), and the district Parent Guide sets the end point, K-8th by 2027-2028 (SDIRC Parent Guide, page 14).

FLDOE and NCES file the school as Fellsmere Elementary School, so state grade reports and federal data appear under that name rather than Fellsmere Academy.

Every Fellsmere Academy student is served breakfast and lunch at no charge in 2026-2027, and the Fellsmere campus offers full day VPK for four-year-olds.

The district's Notification of Free Meals 2026-2027 lists Fellsmere Academy as the one site where all students get both breakfast and lunch free under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs; five other schools get free breakfast only (SDIRC Notification of Free Meals). NCES data show 602 Fellsmere students were eligible for free lunch in 2024-25 out of 605 enrolled (NCES).

Full day VPK of 540 hours is offered at seven district sites, and Fellsmere Elementary is on the list; at K-8 sites the VPK day runs 8:30am to 2:30pm (SDIRC Parent Guide, page 42). The Parent Guide's VPK and Extended Day lists use the name Fellsmere Elementary.

School health requirements are local too. The Parent Guide's Health Resources list for school physicals and immunizations includes Treasure Coast Community Health (North) at 12196 County Road 512, Fellsmere, 772-257-8224, and the same page states that 7th graders must have a Tdap dose before entering 7th grade (SDIRC Parent Guide, page 77).

Questions that the Fellsmere campus cannot answer go to the School District of Indian River County office at 6500 57th Street, Vero Beach, main number (772) 564-3000 (SDIRC).
