Loch Haven Park Visitor Guide, Orlando

Loch Haven Park is a 45 acre City of Orlando cultural park at 777 E Princeton Street, open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, which the city calls the region's premier cultural park (City of Orlando, Loch Haven Park).

The City of Orlando places Loch Haven Park on North Mills Avenue and Princeton Street, with Lake Estelle on the north, Lake Rowena on the east and Lake Formosa on the south (City of Orlando). The city lists its residents as the Orlando Shakespeare Theater, Orlando Science Center, Orlando Family Stage, Orlando Museum of Art, Orlando Fire Museum, Mennello Museum of American Art, Orlando Ballet, the Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival and the Ivanhoe Village Mainstreet District (City of Orlando).

The park amenities posted by the City of Orlando include a paved walking path, bike and jogging trails, open space, the lakes, bird watching, on street parking, a parking lot and electricity for rentals, and the city marks Loch Haven Park as disabled accessible (City of Orlando). Its outdoor performance plaza, way finding signs and banners were funded in part by Orange County Government through the Arts and Cultural Affairs Program (City of Orlando).

At Loch Haven Park the Orlando Museum of Art charges $20 for an adult, the Mennello Museum of American Art charges $8, and the Orlando Fire Museum opens only Friday and Saturday (Orlando Museum of Art; Mennello Museum; Orlando Fire Museum).

The Orlando Museum of Art sells tickets at $12 for seniors 60 and over, $10 for students with ID and $8 for children 6 to 17, with children 5 and under free and a $45 family bundle for 2 adults and up to 3 children (OMA visit page). Active duty military, veterans and first responders enter OMA free with ID, and a SNAP EBT card with ID brings the price to $3 under Museums for All (OMA). OMA closes on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Day (OMA).

The Mennello Museum of American Art, at 900 E. Princeton Street, charges $5 for seniors and $3 for educators, students and children 6 to 17; children under 6 and active or retired military, veterans and their families enter free (Mennello visitor information). The City of Orlando owns the Mennello and runs it through the Orlando Venues Department, which describes its permanent collection of paintings by folk artist Earl Cunningham (City of Orlando, Orlando Venues). Docent tours need at least one week of notice (Mennello).

Loch Haven Park has free lots beside the Orlando Museum of Art and the Mennello Museum, plus the Orlando Science Center garage at 782 Princeton Street at $4 per hour (OMA; Mennello; Orlando Science Center).

The Orlando Museum of Art says free parking is available in the lot next to the museum, with marked spaces for buses and vans and a rideshare and taxi drop off at the entrance (OMA). The Mennello Museum has its own free lot and a circular driveway for drop off at its covered front porch, which has a ramp and stairs (Mennello).

The covered option at Loch Haven Park is the Orlando Science Center garage across Princeton Street, where self parking costs $4 per hour during museum hours, first come, first served, and is free for Science Center members (Orlando Science Center). The Mennello visitor page still says the same garage charges a $5 fee (Mennello); the Science Center's own visit page is the one that posts the $4 hourly rate. The city also lists on street parking among the park amenities (City of Orlando).

Drivers heading east on I-4 take Exit 85 at Princeton Street, turn right and follow the signs to Loch Haven Park, and cyclists can arrive on the Orlando Urban Trail, which runs through the park (OMA directions; City of Orlando, Orlando Urban Trail).

The Orlando Museum of Art routes visitors from Orlando International Airport on FL-528 west to I-4 east, exiting at Princeton Street and turning right toward Loch Haven Park; from Walt Disney World Resort the route is I-4 east to Exit 85 for Princeton Street (OMA).

The Orlando Urban Trail is about three miles long and twelve feet wide, and 85 percent of it is off street; it runs from Lake Highland through Loch Haven Park to Mead Garden in Winter Park (City of Orlando). The Mennello Museum says the trail passes through its lakeside Sculpture Garden to the museum's front door and bike rack, and that Sculpture Garden is always open to the public (Mennello).

SunRail lists the station at 500 East Rollins St. as AdventHealth (SunRail stations). The Orlando Science Center uses that name and calls the stop a short walk away (Orlando Science Center), while the Mennello page still calls the station at the same address Florida Hospital Health Village (Mennello).

The Orlando Museum of Art at Loch Haven Park is free on the third Thursday of every month, open late from 10 am to 8 pm for Access for All at OMA (Orlando Museum of Art).

Bank of America and Merrill Lynch cardholders get one free general admission on the first full weekend of each month at both the Orlando Museum of Art and the Mennello Museum through Museums on Us (OMA; Mennello). The Mennello Museum also admits active and retired military, veterans and their families free year round as a Blue Star Museum (Mennello).

Orlando Fringe, which the City of Orlando lists among the Loch Haven Park residents, is taking applications for the 36th annual Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival in May, and runs a Winter mini-FEST from January 6 to 10, 2027 (Orlando Fringe; City of Orlando). Orlando Fringe, which produces the festival, says it has given artists a space to showcase their work since 1992 (Orlando Fringe).

The Orlando Fire Museum on East Rollins Street offers tours of Orlando Fire Department history; visitors schedule a tour through 407.246.3468 (Orlando Fire Museum). Because it opens only on Friday and Saturday, a Tuesday to Thursday visit to Loch Haven Park covers OMA and the Mennello but not the fire museum (Orlando Fire Museum; OMA; Mennello).

Two Loch Haven Park details posted by the Mennello Museum are stale: its holiday closing list still shows 2021 and 2022 dates, and its garage fee differs from the Science Center's posted rate (Mennello; Orlando Science Center).

The Mennello visitor page for its building at 900 E. Princeton Street in Loch Haven Park lists closings for Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 25, Christmas Day on Saturday, December 25, and New Year's Day on Saturday, January 1, 2022 (Mennello), dates from the 2021 holiday season. Its footer says the museum closes on Mondays and major holidays (Mennello) without naming which holidays.
